Padlocks for Patriots is a grassroots initiative with the goal of raising funds to repair veterans homes in northern Ocean County. Contribute $25 to Northern Ocean Habitat for Humanity and write a message to honor or memorialize a veteran; the padlock will be engraved and locked on the Habitat American flag fence outside of the Habitat ReStore on Route 166 in Toms River. All funds raised through this initiative are used towards Habitat’s veteran repair and homeowner program. The locks’ engraving is generously donated by Bay Traders in Toms River. Locks can be purchased at the ReStore at 1201 Lakewood Road in Toms River. Open Tuesday through Saturday from 10-4.
Today, 1.4 million veterans are living in poverty. Many of our veterans are living in poverty because of the high cost of housing, despite having access to VA loans and other assistance.
In addition, nearly 4 million veterans are using at least 30 percent of their income to pay for their rent or mortgage, and more than 1.5 million are paying at least 50 percent.
Since 2013, over 2,000 veterans and families have partnered with Habitat for Humanity International to create safe, decent, affordable housing through the Veterans Build program.
Locks can be purchased at the ReStore at 1214 Rt. 37 East in Toms River. Open Tuesday through Saturday from 10-6.
