Maria and her family’s story.

Before 2012, Maria, Arvey, and their three young boys were homeless and sharing a single bedroom at a relative’s house. Even though Maria and Arvey were employed, they couldn’t afford to purchase a home in Ocean County while supporting their children. One day at work, Maria came across a Northern Ocean Habitat for Humanity informational flyer. Determined to provide their children with a strong foundation from which to live and grow, she and Arvey set to work on their application to become the next partner homeowners. Now, six years later, their three boys, Dante, Dominick, and DeAngelo have rooms of their own and a place to call home. Homeownership gave this family something we tend to take for granted in our daily lives: stability, strength, and self-reliance.

a letter from Maria’s son, Dante.

Hi! My name is Dante,

I am writing you this letter from my very own bedroom in my home in Manchester Township where I live with my mom, dad and two younger brothers. Six years ago, I wouldn’t have imagined being able to write those words. My brothers and I often shared a bedroom in the many places we lived and I never really had a space to call my own.

Everything changed when my family was blessed with the opportunity to purchase a home from Habitat for Humanity. Not only did they provide our family with a place to live, but they gave us stability and comfort. Now I never have to worry that my parents will say, ‘We have to move again’.

As a senior in high school, I can finally focus on my hobbies and interests, which are animation and video. I plan on going to college so that I can one day work in the film or video game industry.

With your help, other kids like me can have the same opportunity that Habitat provided me and my family.

Happy Holidays from my home to your home!
